計画地は、福岡市中心部から少し離れた博多漁港西側、「かもめ広場」前に立つテナントビル1階。
目の前には芝生広場が広がり、海風を感じながら穏やかな時間を過ごせる立地です。
かつてバーバーサロンが入居していた空間に、東京発の人気ブランド「NATAL DESIGN」のフルラインを展開するSCATTER BRAINの2号店を計画しました。
福岡・博多の中心地にはハイブランドの店舗が立ち並び、高級素材を駆使した豪華な空間が多く見られます。
しかし、この立地だからこそ、自然に寄り添いながら肩の力を抜いて楽しめるデザインを意識しました。
ファサードは東京世田谷の旗艦店を踏襲し、白を基調に赤のサインを配置。
ガラス張りの建具からは公園の緑と光、海風が店内に流れ込み、外とのつながりを強めています。
また、デザイナー塚田氏が選んだアンティーク建具を東京から取り寄せ、店構えに個性を添えました。
内部は鉄骨や配線をあえて白塗装で見せ、ラフさを残しながら、鮮やかな海外製の絨毯や壁紙を重ねています。
一見派手に映る色彩も、NATAL DESIGN特有の差し色と呼応し、空間をチャーミングに演出。
加えて、古材の床やアンティーク什器、経年した真鍮パイプを組み合わせ、クラシカルな雰囲気と現代的な遊び心を両立させました。
象徴的なのはネオンサイン。「HELLO NEW DAY! GOOD BYE YESTERDAY!」のメッセージをガス封入型ネオン管で制作し、点灯すると淡いピンクの光が天井に広がります。
ブランドの哲学を体現する光が、店内を幻想的に包み込みます。
小規模ながら、ガレージを探検するような楽しさと自然の心地よさを備えた空間。
オープン後もイベントや企画を発信し、人やコミュニティが交わる場として成長しています。
アウトドアカルチャーを牽引するNATAL DESIGNが九州の地に拠点を持つことは、新たな潮流を生み出す契機となるでしょう。

The project site is located on the west side of Hakata Port in Fukuoka, directly facing “Kamome Square.” The first floor of a tenant building, once occupied by a barber shop, was reimagined as the second store of SCATTER BRAIN, featuring the full lineup of Tokyo-based outdoor lifestyle brand NATAL DESIGN.
While central Hakata is home to numerous luxury boutiques that rely on high-end materials and elaborate finishes, this location called for a different approach—one that blends seamlessly with the serene environment of the sea breeze and park greenery, offering a more relaxed, approachable kind of luxury.
The façade design follows the brand’s flagship store in Setagaya, Tokyo, with a white base and bold red signage. Large glass doors open the interior to the park, drawing in natural light and fresh air, and connecting the store with its unique surroundings. Antique fittings carefully chosen by designer Mr. Tsukada were brought in from Tokyo, giving the storefront an added layer of personality and history.
Inside, steel frames and wiring were intentionally left exposed, painted white to integrate into the design. On this foundation, vivid carpets and wallpapers sourced overseas were introduced. Though bold, their colors echo NATAL DESIGN’s distinctive use of accent tones, transforming them into charming highlights within the space. The interior also incorporates aged wooden floors, antique furniture, and brass hanger pipes with a patina, creating a unique balance between vintage warmth and modern playfulness.
One of the most striking features is the neon signage. Instead of using the now-common LED lights, we chose traditional gas-filled neon tubes, specially crafted to display the slogan: “HELLO NEW DAY! GOOD BYE YESTERDAY!” When illuminated, the sign casts a soft pink glow across the ceiling, enveloping the store in a dreamlike, atmospheric light that captures the philosophy of the brand.
Although compact in scale, the store offers both the thrill of exploring a garage and the refreshing comfort of nature. Since its opening, it has become a hub where events and collaborations are actively hosted, drawing in diverse people and ideas. With NATAL DESIGN establishing a base in Fukuoka—the gateway to Kyushu—the store is poised to spark a new wave of culture and creativity across the region.
