敷地は、日本最古の仏教寺院「四天王寺」の南に広がる、歴史と静けさが息づく住宅街。
その一角に建つ築60年を超える木造長屋を改装し、カフェバーでありながらギャラリーとしても使える空間を計画しました。
デザインの軸に置いたのは、建物が持つ時間の積層を大切にしつつ、飲食店に欠かせない清潔感を両立させること。
ファサードは木とガラスを組み合わせ、中庭まで視線が抜ける設計に。街を歩く人がふと立ち寄りたくなるような開放感を演出しています。
店内はカウンターを中心に据え、歴史を刻む梁や柱をそのまま残すことで、この場所が歩んできた時間を感じられる構成に。
天井をスケルトンにすることで高さを確保し、照明を抑えて落ち着いた雰囲気を作り出しました。
カウンター背面の壁はモルタルと珪藻土で仕上げ、座る位置によって異なる景色を楽しめるようにしています。
奥には、どの席からもグリーンを望める中庭を配置。
大きな窓を額縁に見立て、日々変化する植物の表情が訪れるたびに違う絵を描きます。
空間の核となるのは、コの字型に設えたモルタル製のロングカウンター。
無機質な素材感に、無垢材や真鍮を組み合わせることで、硬さの中に温もりを調和させました。
「住宅地だからこそ、気軽に訪れ、ジンとコーヒーを楽しめる場にしたい」。
そんなオーナーの想いを込め、この街に新しい日常を届ける居場所となりました。

The site lies just south of Shitenno-ji, Japan’s oldest Buddhist temple, within a quiet residential neighborhood steeped in history. Here, we transformed a 60-year-old wooden row house into a multipurpose space—a café and bar that also serves as a gallery.
Our design approach was to preserve the layered history of the building while ensuring the cleanliness essential to a dining establishment. The façade combines wood and glass, allowing views that extend to the courtyard, inviting passersby to step inside.
Inside, a counter-centered layout highlights the building’s original beams and columns, keeping its memory alive. An exposed ceiling creates openness, while subdued lighting fosters intimacy. The counter wall is finished with both mortar and diatomaceous earth, offering guests varied perspectives depending on where they sit.
At the rear, a courtyard provides greenery visible from every seat. A large fixed window frames this living scenery like a work of art, its composition changing with the seasons.
The space revolves around a U-shaped mortar counter. By blending solid materials with warm elements like solid wood and brass, we softened the starkness and created balance.
With the owner’s vision—“a place where locals can casually enjoy gin and coffee in their neighborhood”—this project became a welcoming everyday refuge in the city.
